How to install IBM Schoolview/Iclass on Windows 98 or Dos.

Hello everyone, I have a copy of IBM Schoolview and Iclass. I wonder how to install this software. I am using Windows 98 for all my PC / GEOS programs and work. I'm wondering if I can install a Microsoft-DOS machine or Windows 98. If you have questions about any PC / GEOS programs or My Brother Geobook NB-80c prototype 486 with different user interfaces, then Yago or Nike. Or Zoomer, HP information etc. etc. Please let me know. GEOS programs
I only speak English.

Hello & Welcome!

Could you please post an English version of your text? Google Translate produced something that is hard to understand. ;) Thanks!

Jörg
P.S.: The majority of the German users of this board could at least understand English. Hence, posting in English isn't a problem (even though it might result in less replies than threads in German).

Hello!

Schoolview wasn't distributed in Germany. Hence I have not not seen or used it. Anyway: what exactly is the problem: Do you have got problems with the installer itself? Or is your problem that the installed version refuses to start? (As Schoolview is more or less just a GWE 2.x with some extensions, I probably could at least give some general hints.)

Do you have got an "official" prototype of the 486-GeoBook? Or did you create it on your own?

As far as I remember, you'll need a Novell Netware 3.x network and the GEOS is installed on a network drive on the Novell server. I've never seen SchoolView, but was always interested into seeing it one day... Have been a Novell CNE on Netware 4.x with NDS, but still remember a little bit the 3.12 servers :-)

Are you missing the install documents ?

I guess that the user "EPA" could help, as he reported to have installed Schoolview in an emulator - see http://www.geos-infobase.de/WBB_317/inde…d&threadID=2157. In this thread, you'll find various links, including ones to some installation-guides: https://sites.google.com/site/iclasschoo…schoolview-plus and https://sites.google.com/site/iclasschoolview/home

Hi!

You can find EPA's contact-info on the "info-sheet" here on the forum:
http://www.geos-infobase.de/WBB_317/inde…e=User&userID=7
It'll look like this:

You can send him a "personal note" (PN) here on the forum or an email. When sending an email, please remember to set the "yes, use my private email-address as sender" - like this:

(Of course this will only work when EPA and you have entered valid email-addresses.)

And yes, we want to see photos of the GeoBook-protoype! ;)

I am having trouble uploading the pictures of the Geobook 496

Hi Jörg:
I am having trouble uploading the pictures of the Geobook 486. The form software keeps saying they are too big as attachments and I cannot copy and paste them. Is there an e-mail address that I can send them too? I want everyone to see the pictures.

original email regarding the Geobook 486 from Frank

Hi Everyone: This is the original email regarding the Geobook 486 that I got from Frank when he gave me the Geobook 486 enjoy!
From: Frank S. Fischer

Subject: NB-80C interface

Now that I think of it, the interface of the 486 NB-80C I sent you
is a proto-type and different from a regular GeoBook. So you've got a very rare
GeoBook on it's way, plus it's a 486. All others are 386..

Dear all,

If we could have an ISO-Image of the School View install disk, it would be a nice challenge to get this thing running at the next meeting in Syhra. I have got a Compaq notebook that still contains a running installation of Netware 3.12

ISO Schoolview

Thomas.
Yes I can send you a copy of the ISO however I would like to get Schoolview up and running on my computer. Is it possible that you could send me a virtual Hard disk drive file with Netware and Schoolview already installed and ready to go as I will not be able to make it to the meeting as I live in the USA and I don't know how to setup schoolview and Netware by myself. Please provide me with your email so I can send you the ISO.

SchoolView Requirements

Dear Brett,

as stated in the installation instruction linked in the other posts, the folling components are required:
  • One Copy of PC-DOS 7.00 or MS-DOS.
  • One Copy of Netware 3.12 or Netware ELS Version 2.15
  • One Copy of BASICMHS for Netware Mail Integration
  • One Copy of NetView Netware Management
  • One Copy of IBM Classroom LAN Administration System (ICLAS) 1.30 or 1.50.
The 'PMBA ¨ Specific UI' is the thing that all the special features of this GEOS version like the diffent launchers (Login, K2 Shell, BA Workplace Shell) are around and it is closely linked to ICLAS (and its GEOS library). This means without a proper ICLAS installation SchollView (and its components) will not work at all ;(

Hi,

the Netware part was more easy than expected. It runs well in a current QEmu 2.6 VM under Windows 10 x64.

Quellcode

1
qemu-system-i386.exe -m 16 -L ..\Bios -hda server.qc2 -device ne2k_isa,mac=00:2e:3c:92:11:01,netdev=mynet0,irq=10,iobase=0x320 -netdev "tap,ifname=Ethernet,id=mynet0"

The PC-DOS 7 installation also was not a challenge and I able to login from the client into the server that is connected via 2 bridged TAP devices.

Quellcode

1
qemu-system-i386.exe -m 16 -L ..\Bios -hda ws.qc2 -device ne2k_isa,mac=00:2e:3c:92:11:02,netdev=mynet0,irq=10,iobase=0x320 -netdev "tap,ifname=Ethernet 2,id=mynet0"

BUT

I'm sorry to repead this, but I still don't know how to do the ICLAS base setup. There is no 5 disk install set contining a 'G.BAT' file on the first disk as mentioned in the ICLAS admin blog. All install sets sem to be SV related and are depending on a working ICLAS installation (serveral files an folders on the NW server and also some special users accounts etc.). There are just some folders containing files that have been cpied from an working ICLAS server that I restored into my installation. But after login I still get an error message. ?(

And the beast has more than two heads...KR-07 SV and even the most recent BBE 4.1.3 isn't working on the client at the moment. So my question:

Has anyone used GEOS with a recent QEmu 2.6/Weiss jemand, ob GEOS zusammen mit einer neueren QEmu-Version funktioniert?
